The Four Inns of Court

The Inner Temple, Middle Temple, Gray's Inn and Lincoln's Inn are the four Inns of Court in London. The Inns are societies of judges and barristers of profound importance to the legal system in England. The Inns are over 600 years old, but are still very much living institutions, serving the needs of the practising bar. Over 2,400 of the 9,322 practising barristers in England and Wales are members of the Inner Temple, over 2,801 are members of the Middle Temple, over 2,400 are members of Gray's Inn and over 1,500 are members of Lincoln's Inn; over 4,600 practising barristers have their chambers in the Temple, 1,300 barristers have their chambers in Gray's Inn and 1,400 have their chambers in the Lincoln's Inn area. The Inns believe that, by taking a leading part in the Pegasus Scholarship scheme, they are working to provide scholarships which will be of benefit to future generations of young lawyers both in this country and in many other countries throughout the world, and which will promote greater sympathy and understanding between the legal professions in those countries.

The Cambridge Commonwealth Trust

The Cambridge Commonwealth Trust was set up in 1982 to bring to Cambridge University outstanding students from the Commonwealth. Under the Chairmanship of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, the Trustees agreed to make particular provision for the developing countries of the Commonwealth.

Since 1982, the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust has brought 6,285 students from 51 countries of the Commonwealth to Cambridge and currently supports over 700 Commonwealth students in-residence at Cambridge.

In its first fifteen years, the Trust has strengthened both Cambridge's and Britain's traditional links with Commonwealth countries. Its initiatives, enthusiastically welcomed and energetically supported, have made new connections of potential benefit to the Commonwealth as a whole.
