Art Projects

The Garden hosts art projects throughout the year, working directly with various artists.

In 2014, Singaporean Randy Chan, a practising architect, and British artist Philippa Lawrence collaborated on an installation called ‘Angles of Incidence’. This was part of the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) and British Council (BC) Artist-in-Residence Exchange programme and held in the garden from 4 June – 20 July 2014. Also in 2014 London-based, contemporary artist Emma L Coates presented screen prints inspired by a year spent sketching in the garden.

In 2015, 1,000 little white penguin-like sculptures flocked into the garden in a collaboration with Dutch artist Gert-jan Vlaming and the Dutch Embassy. The Phing-things, which each contained a good-will message on their back, stood in the garden for five days before they were given away for free in a ‘re-homing’ ceremony.
