Subject matter expert - Pupil supervisor training (one position)

TERM: Fixed-term contract for the provision of services (commencing in May 2024)

The Bar Council is looking for a subject matter expert to draft the content for a new on-demand pupil supervisor training course. The successful applicant will work remotely to populate a pre-determined course structure. We estimate that the time required to complete the work will be no more than 40 hours and have allocated six weeks for this phase of the project (commencing in May 2024).

About the role of the subject matter expert

You will use your expertise and knowledge to write the content for our new on-demand pupil supervisor training course and provide feedback on the course during the testing phase of the project.

The remuneration for the role is £300 per hour and you will be expected to invoice the Bar Council for services rendered upon completion of the work.

Knowledge and experience

You should be an experienced pupil supervisor who has delivered training to support barristers in developing an understanding of the current regulatory requirements associated with the education and training of pupil barristers.

Applications from pupil supervisors and education and training or pupillage committee members who:

  • have not previously delivered training but are able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the Bar Qualification Manual, Authorisation Framework, and Professional Statement, and
  • who have experience in teaching or tutoring, will also be considered.

You do not need any previous experience of writing training materials for on-demand courses, but experience of drafting content for seminars and training is essential. You will be working to a predetermined course structure and our instructional designer will provide you with a framework to follow to ensure that your content can be successfully converted to an on-demand format.

Applications will be reviewed and assessed based on experience and merit. We are committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and openness in our recruitment processes.
