The Inner Temple will host a moot to demonstrate the differing advocacy styles of barristers at the Bar of England & Wales and trial attorneys from California.
This event forms part of the California Lawyers Association’s biennial programme, 'A Week in Legal London', which provides opportunities for visiting attorneys and judges to experience the workings of the legal system in England & Wales, expand their litigation skills, and engage in thought-provoking discussions with distinguished members of our legal community.
The moot subject will deal with a dispute between unmarried parents as to the proper residence of their 11 year old son who has been brought to London by his father from California. There will be competing claims as to whether California or the UK has jurisdiction over the dispute and, if so, a determination of the habitual residence of the minor. This will be followed by a drinks and networking reception.
