Title: Is the Rise in Mass Litigation distorting our Legal System and the UK Economy?

Speakers: Tba

Moderator: Tba

The speakers will consider litigation funding and different perspectives from corporates and legal firms about the impact of the way in which litigation is being funded in relation to climate-related issues and on certain businesses critical to economic growth, as well as on the justice system. Businesses such as Shell are on the receiving end of “class” and similar actions brought by charities and groups claiming to act in the public interest or, in some cases, acting out of money-making self-interest, supported by litigation funding that ultimately may put businesses at competitive disadvantage. Many argue that appropriate regulation is required to level the playing field.

On the other side of argument, a recent survey by the International Legal Finance Association (IFLA) found that businesses are generally supportive of the effect of litigation funding on the business environment.

The event will be delivered in person and online. The session will include an opportunity for Q&A and for post-talk networking.
