The Sikh Education Council and I are delighted to announce this year’s competition. It is open to all aspiring barristers from working class backgrounds, regardless of faith or non-faith. This year’s question is:
By reference to British values, what are the best values for humans to aspire to?
First prize is again £4K plus mentoring with all genuine applicants being offered help with pupillage applications. A prize of £300 may be awarded to an exceptional runner up. The deadline is 21 August 2025 so be productive this summer!
Run since 2018, the aims of the scholarships are:
a. To improve social mobility in professions perceived to be out of reach for those from poorer backgrounds. This is achieved through financial awards, mentoring and work placements.
b. To encourage a wider understanding of Sikh jurisprudence by considering whether society may learn from Sikhism for the benefit of us all.
