Inner Temple Book Prize 2025

The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple has announced the winners of its 2025 Book Prize, following an award ceremony held at the Inn on 2 December. The prizes were presented by the Book Prize Patron and former Royal Treasurer of the Inn, HRH The Princess Royal. Now firmly established as one of the most prestigious honours in legal writing, the Inner Temple Book Prize continues to be a leading fixture in the UK’s legal landscape.

The Treasurer, Richard Salter KC, congratulated the winners and all those involved with the prize, stating:

“The Inner Temple is proud to celebrate the achievements of this year’s winning authors and shortlisted finalists, each of whom has produced an exceptional work of legal scholarship. The Inner Temple Book Prize exists to recognise and encourage books that make an outstanding contribution to the understanding of law as it is administered in England and Wales. The Prize reflects the Inn’s enduring commitment to legal scholarship and to supporting the education and development of lawyers now and in the years ahead.”

The main prize of £12,000 has been awarded to Professor Aileen Kavanagh for The Collaborative Constitution, published by Cambridge University Press.

This year’s shortlist for the main award also included:

  • Sean Coyle, Natural Law and Modern Society (Oxford University Press)
  • Virginia Mantouvalou, Structural Injustice and Workers’ Rights (Oxford University Press)
  • Liron Shmilovits, Legal Fictions in Private Law (Cambridge University Press)

The New Author Prize has been awarded to Dr Brooke Marshall for her book Asymmetric Jurisdiction Clauses, published by Oxford University Press.
