John Bedford Deby QC

It is with much regret that we report that Master Deby (John Bedford Deby QC) sadly died on Saturday 30 July, aged 90. The Inn’s flag will be flying at half-mast on Thursday 18 August, in his memory.

Master Deby was called to the Bar by the Inn in 1954 and took silk in 1970. He was appointed a Recorder of the Crown Court from 1977 until 1995.

Master Deby was elected a Bencher of the Inn in 1986 and served as Master of the Silver from 1991 to 2012. During his tenure as Master of the Silver he was responsible for commissioning the Pegasus candlesticks crafted by silversmith Anthony Elson; one pair for the Millennium, another pair for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and four smaller candelabra for the Quatercentenary of the Royal Charter.  His article about the Inn’s silver collection, published in ‘A Community of Communities’, can be read on the website Silver | Inner Temple.

The funeral has taken place at 10am on Tuesday 23 August at Putney Vale Crematorium
