"Professor Sandy Steel, University of Oxford Assumptions of Responsibility One circumstance in which a person can come under a positive legal duty in tort is when they ‘assume responsibility’. This lecture argues that the words ‘assumption of responsibility’ refer to at least four distinct concepts, each of which requires separate articulation and justification. Having explained the distinct strands of assumption of responsibility, the lecture suggests some possible justifications for these non-contractual positive duties to assist others.
