Patrick Maddams Hon FRIBA
Patrick Maddams was Sub-Treasurer of The Inner Temple from 2005-2018 and was the first Sub-Treasurer not to come from a military background since the Second World War. Studying Economics, Maddams had a variety of roles with the Standard Chartered Bank in West Africa, shipping lines and the Royal Academy of Music before coming to The Inner Temple. He is known for updating the way the Inn works and its educational programme.
Caroline Daly graduated from UCL in 2012 and was called to the Bar in 2013. She was a trainee barrister until 2015 and specialises in Planning Law, having represented Countryside Properties, boroughs and corporations. She was declared the third highest rated barrister in Planning under the age of 35 in 2022.
The interview starts by covering the responsibilities of the Sub-Treasurer as educator, property manager and secretary for the Inn’s Membership, the differences between himself and his predecessor from 40 years ago, and the changes that have been made to update the Inn. The interview then moves onto the transformation Serjeants’ Inn into a hotel and its role in the Olympics and the role of The Inner Temple internationally to this day. It contains anecdotes of interesting international visits and visitors as well as personal notes such as Maddams’ favourite food in the Hall and a description of a few of the objects on display in the Sub-Treasurer’s Office.
The runtime is 1 hour, 16 minutes
