Her Excellency Dame Rosalyn Higgins GBE KC JSD FBA
Dame Rosalyn Higgins DBE KC was called to the Bar in 1975 and was elected a Bencher of The Inner Temple and a Queens’ Counsel in 1986. She specialised in Human Rights and International Law and was a member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee. In 1995 Dame Rosalyn became the first woman judge on the International Court of Justice and served as its President between 2006-2009. In 2009 she became an advisor on the Iraq War enquiry headed by Sir John Chilcot.
Her professional appointments have also included:
- Specialist in International Law, Royal Institute of International Affairs, 1963–1974
- Visiting Fellow, London School of Economics, 1974–1978
- Professor of International Law, University of Kent at Canterbury, 1978–1981
- Professor of International Law, University of London (London School of Economics), 1981–1995
- Vice President, British Institute of International and Comparative Law
- Member of the UN Human Rights Committee.
Rebecca Jane Wright to the Bar in 2013. She specialises in family and international Law and has worked aboard in Egypt, Syria and Afghanistan.
The interview cover Dame Rosalyn’s previous work at the United Nations and the EU before joining the Inn, experiences of dining and of pupillage, the process of becoming a QC and her influence through her work at the Bar and international events.
