The Inn’s New Practitioner Advocacy Course runs twice a year, in April and June, and is designed to provide practitioners with an opportunity to practice and enhance some core advocacy skills, including the handling of lay witnesses and in particular, expert evidence, both in court and in conference.
The aim of our NP Courses, is to teach NPs how to effectively prepare and present cases, involving expert and lay witnesses, by using a combination of in person and online learning.
In April, the course focusses on a forensic accountancy case, and a medical case in June. The expert handling skills that the courses deal with are applicable to all fields of expertise, and all jurisdictions, including civil, crime and family.
Our course provides nine full advocacy hours of continuing professional development (CPD), and eight ‘general’ hours of CPD. Both count towards the 45 hours of CPD you need to complete in your New Practitioner Programme (NPP).
The NPP is also available to practitioners on Circuit. Details of all Circuits can be found on The Bar Council website.
