FAQs for Joining a Student Society
How do I join a student society?

We would also suggest that you read the constitutions of the societies you wish to join. These can be found on the individual pages on the Inner Temple website.
Can I join more than one student society?
Yes! You can join as many student societies as you like.
Just ensure that you have a clear diary for the events you wish to attend. Being a member of a student society is seen as a professional commitment, therefore, any last minute drop ups and no shows are not tolerated.
Do I need to pay to take part in the student societies?
It is free to become a member of a student society.
However, please note there may be some costs associated with being a member. For example:
- Most educational events are free – such as a panel discussion, but you may be asked to pay a fee for social activities such as ITSA’s Burns Night Supper.
- If you are a member of the Mooting Society and successfully make it onto a team to compete at an international moot competition, in some circumstances the Society may only be able to subsidy your travel/accommodation. They will inform you of any costs prior to accepting the commitment.
I am a Inner Temple student member but do not live in London, can I still take part?
Yes! The student societies host a variety of events online and in-person. There may be events where you are required to be in London e.g., you are competing in a moot/debate etc. In some, but not all cases, the society may be able to cover/subsidy your travel.
Some of the student societies also host events on circuit.
The inn also offers a travel subsidy for out of London students who would like to take part in student society activities that are due to be held in-person at the inn. CLICK HERE to read more about this.
I am not an Inner Temple member, can I still take part?
You must be an Inner Temple member in order to take part in the student societies.
There are some instances where non-members can take part, for example:
- The Intervarsity Mooting and Debating competitions
