Consultation Responses

Where appropriate, The Inner Temple responds to consultations issued by the Bar Standards Board (BSB), Bar Council and Legal Services Board about issues concerning the barristers profession. Some responses are prepared under the umbrella of the Council of the Inns of Court (COIC).

Recent consultations and responses are available below.

COIC responded on behalf of the Inns of Court to the BSB consultation on ‘Shaping our Next Strategy: Gathering insights and evidence' in April 2025. The consultation can be found on the BSB's website here. A draft strategy is expected to be issued for further consultation in late 2025.

The Inner Temple fully supported the COIC response on the above consultation and responded individually and in greater detail on matters relating specifically to the infrastructure of The Inner Temple (recommendations 9 and 10 of the consultation). The responses were submitted in December 2024. The consultation can be found on the BSB's website here.

In response to research on the extent of bullying, harassment and sexual harassment at the Bar, the Bar Council commissioned an independent review chaired by Baroness Harman KC. Details are available on the Bar Council website here. The Inner Temple responded in October 2024. The report of findings is expected in mid/late-2025.

COIC responded on behalf of the Inns of Court to the BSB consultation on proposed amendments to the definition of Academic Legal Training and related exemptions in March 2024. The consultation can be found on the BSB's website here.
