What scholarships are available?

The Inn awards over £1.8 million each year in Bar Course scholarships.

Breakdown of Awards

Named Scholarships
  • There are 7 Named Scholarships available each year. These are awarded to those that receive the highest marks, against the Inn’s scholarships criteria.
  • The value of Named Scholarships are not means tested. The awards available are:
    • Peter Taylor Scholarship – £22,000
    • Stephen Chapman Scholarship – £21,000
    • Princess Royal Scholarship – £20,000 (5 of these available)
Major Scholarships
  • There are 20 available Major Scholarships awarded each year, to the next 20 best scoring candidates.
  • The value of each Major Scholarship is determined by financial means assessment. Currently, the minimum award is £3,000, and the maximum award is £20,000.
Exhibition Scholarships
  • There are approximately 93 Exhibition Scholarships awarded each year to those who performance very well against the scholarships criteria.
  • The value of each Exhibition Scholarship is determined by financial means assessment. Currently, the minimum award is £3,000, and the maximum award is £20,000.
Benefactors Scholarships
  • There are 18 Benefactors Scholarships & Prizes available.
  • These are awarded in conjunction with Exhibition Scholarships, to the top 18 scholars in the Exhibition Scholarships tier.
Duke of Edinburgh Awards
  • There are 50 Duke of Edinburgh Awards awarded each year.
  • They are awarded based on financial assessment, and each award is £188.50 to contribute towards the cost of membership admission fees and Call to the Bar fees.
