Information for University staff

Newsletters

We have email newsletter mailing lists for 3 audiences: careers advisors/staff, students, Bar/Law Societies.

We typically send a monthly newsletter highlighting upcoming events run by us and other organisations, as well as scholarship deadlines and other schemes which we are asked to promote.

We also use the careers advisors/staff mailing list to send an invite to our annual university dinner, which you can read more about below.

Insight events

We run events aimed at aspiring barristers around the country and online. Please promote these events to your students by sharing the list of events.

Events take place in each legal circuit over the course of the academic year. Online events take place in each term and are recorded – all our online event recordings can be found in this YouTube playlist. Students in the early stages of researching a career at the Bar may find these recordings particularly helpful.

Staff are also welcome to attend our events – simply book a ‘Careers Advisor’ ticket. If you’d like to bring a group of students (rather than relying on them to sign up individually) please do get in touch.

PASS

Pegasus Access and Support Scheme (PASS) is our main outreach programme, aimed at aspiring barristers from backgrounds underrepresented at the Bar. It is a year long programme and consists of a mini-pupillage placement (with accommodation and transport costs paid for by the Inner Temple) and skills development opportunities, as well as significant face time with practising barristers and judges.

Participants must meet eligibility criteria which are explained in detail on our PASS website pages.

Applications for PASS usually open in late April and close at the end of June. The programme itself starts in October and runs through the academic year.

Dinner to the Universities

We hold an annual dinner where undergraduate students interested in a career at the Bar dine alongside practising members. We ask careers teams, law schools, and law societies to put forward two students per university.

Invites typically go to universities in November, with the dinner itself usually taking place in Spring.

Regrettably, we are unable to help with travel costs for this event.

Tours of the Inn

If you would like to bring a group of students to the Inn for a tour and a chat with a member of the Outreach team (completely free of charge), please email us.

We have a maximum of 15 attendees for a tour – if you are very confident that you would have more than 15 attendees, we may be able to offer 2 simultaneous tours, but availability for these relies on 2 members of staff so 15 is our preference. You are welcome to arrange more than one visit per year.

Thursdays are our preferred day for a tour, but we are happy to work with your availability. We require 2 weeks’ notice for a group tour.
