In this webinar, we will explore key questions posed by the advent of Artificial Intelligence for legal practice, including:
• What key legal principles should drive the responsible use, development, and employment of AI in Law?
• Does the law of evidence need to be amended in light of the risks posed by AI-generated evidence?
• What are the key areas of convergence and divergence across different jurisdictions’ approaches to AI regulation?
Speakers:
Nema Milaninia is a partner at King & Spalding LLP. His practice focuses on regulatory compliance and litigation, cross-border investigations, white-collar defense, and public international law litigation. He was previously appointed by President Biden as a senior advisor in the State Department, where he focused on international criminal law and technology policy. Nema also served as a prosecutor at the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
Burkhard Schafer is Professor of Computational Legal Theory at Edinburgh Law School. His main field of interest is the interaction between law, science and computer technology from doctrinal, comparative and legal-theoretical perspectives. This research encompasses both the problems that technology and technological change poses to the law – technology law – and the use of technology in the justice system and the legal services industry – legal informatics. He is member of the expert group of AI4People, chairing their working group on an ethics framework for legal technology, and member of the data ethics group of the Turing Institute.
Chaired by Prof Yvonne McDermott Rees
