Understanding accounting can be tricky enough when dealing with your own finances, but when faced with cases that involve examination of detailed accounts and unfamiliar terminology, many barristers find themselves struggling, panicking, or feeling completely overwhelmed. Even when working with an expert witness, getting a sufficiently firm understanding of key accounting principles and documents to be able to put your case across can feel extremely challenging.
This new series of events aims to demystify the common accounting jargon and principles you may come across, put you at ease with how to navigate and understand them, and show you how to use them effectively in conference and in the courtroom.
Webinar 1 will examine how “GAAP” (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) encompass and provide the framework within which specific, detailed accounting principles and standards are established, interpreted, and applied, and look at the commonest problem areas you are likely to encounter when dealing with accounts as a barrister.
Led by Simon de Quidt, former Partner at Deloitte, lead accountancy expert on the New Practitioner Advocacy Course for the last 15 years and Honorary Bencher of Inner Temple. Chaired by Grahame Aldous KC.
This event will take place online only. A Zoom link will be emailed to you in the week prior to the event.
