Self-Arranged Scholarships are available to tenants or employed barristers of each of the Inns up to seven years’ practice as a barrister (not including pupillage). Awards will be considered for a variety of legal leaning proposals. It should be stressed that, whilst offering opportunities for travel within the country to be visited, a Pegasus Scholarship should not be regarded as a holiday. The Pegasus Scholarship Trust will consider a wide range of placements with a legal based focus.
Whilst the area of law may vary the placements should ideally consider the following when being proposed.
The Trust will consider a range of legal based placement proposals but asks scholars to ensure that:
The Trust will fund between 4- 12 weeks of placement
Any proposals must be for a placement at least 4 weeks in length.
The Trust will consider placement programmes over 12 weeks in length but will only fund up to 12 weeks of the proposed placement.
Applicants are advised to check the list of available arranged placements. If applying for a placement in a location and specialism already offered by the Trust applicants are advised to apply via the arranged route.
The Trust generally funds £500 per week for stipend and applicants are advised to consider this as a starting off point when making an application.
The upper limit of funding is £8000 per application
At the point of application, candidates are not required or expected to have a firm placement lined up but to be able to provide proof of a named organisation or contact with whom initial correspondence has taken place.
