Mock Trials: Call for Witnesses

If you have been called to the Bar by The Inner Temple and have not yet secured pupillage, you can volunteer as a witness at our Pupils’ Mock Trials this November.

The trials take place on 10, 12 and 17 November 2026 at the Royal Courts of Justice and the Old Bailey, and playing a witness is a useful way to develop your own advocacy skills. You will also see courtroom dynamics at close quarters and meet our Accredited Advocacy Trainers, who include senior barristers and judges.

What’s Involved

You will be examined-in-chief or cross-examined by a pupil. The case papers are sent to you in advance and you can refer to them throughout, so there is nothing to memorise. At the end of each trial the trainers give feedback on what went well and where the advocacy could improve, which is as instructive to watch from the witness box as it is to receive.
