A New Practitioner (NP) is a practitioner within their first three calendar years of independent practice. This period begins on 1 January following the start of tenancy, a third six, or employed practice.
During this time, NPs must complete the New Practitioner Programme (NPP), which requires 45 hours of continuing professional development (CPD), consisting of at least nine hours of advocacy training and three hours of professional ethics training.
Advocacy Course
The aim of our New Practitioner Advocacy Course is to teach NPs how to effectively prepare and present cases, involving expert and lay witnesses, by using a combination of in person and online learning.
The Inn’s runs two courses each year, in April and June. Our course provides nine full advocacy hours of CPD, and eight ‘general’ hours of CPD.
Ethics Course
The aim of our New Practitioner Ethics Course is to improve an NPs ability to identify and apply core professional duties to ethical challenges commonly faced by barristers.
We offer ethic courses in the following practice areas: civil, crime family and the Employed Bar. The course involves independent learning (pre-reading and self-assessments) and interactive online group sessions.
Our course provides three full ethics hours of CPD.
